There are nearly 100 publicly traded companies in Maryland, but many of them — particularly the small, entrepreneurial ones — go uncovered by the media in the state.

The business journalism program at UNC-Chapel Hill is changing that.

This website provides breaking news about Maryland public companies — and some private companies — based on their Securities and Exchange Commission filings. We’ll primarily focus on the ones that don’t get the attention of the larger media.

Those stories are written by students in the business journalism program and edited and reviewed by the program’s head, Chris Roush, who has business journalism experience at Bloomberg News, BusinessWeek magazine and the daily newspapers at Atlanta, Tampa and Sarasota.

Each day, we’ll post stories and make them available to media organizations across Maryland.
